St. Thomas organic farm adding to local jobs market

London, Ontario – April 4, 2014 – St. Thomas based Mazak Farms has announced plans to hire local students and organic food enthusiasts for the 2014 asparagus growing season. The Mazak Farms hiring announcement comes as the London-St. Thomas area 8.2% unemployment rate continues to indicate a struggling economy.

Farm owners Sarah and Barry Harrison have deep roots in the St. Thomas community having been born and reared in St. Thomas. “It’s important to provide work opportunities for local people when we can,” says Sarah. Her husband, Barry, adds, “hiring students who believe in the local and organic food movement has been a time honoured practice at Mazak Farms.”

The asparagus growing season typically lasts 6 weeks, beginning in late April/early May, and lasting until mid-June, all weather dependent. People who are interested in applying for a position with Mazak Farms should visit the farm’s new website, www.MazakFarms.ca.

Mazak Farms is a third party certified organic asparagus farm located in St. Thomas, Ontario. Mazak Farms is the only grower of organic white asparagus in Ontario. In addition to asparagus, Mazak Farms grows certified organic rhubarb, certified organic garlic and certified organic scapes. Please visit www.MazakFarms.ca for more information.
